Menorca

Menorca Villas
Menorca is the smallest of the Balearic Islands, located furthest East from mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. It is only 48km long and 20km wide and has sparkling, crystal blue and turquoise coloured waters and beautiful coastline dotted with picturesque white sandy beaches many of which are still private and secluded as they can only be reached by boat. The island is very family-friendly and provides a good selection of accommodation from hotels to beautiful holiday villas. It offers a wealth of activities for young and old alike such as two water parks, a go-carting club, pony riding club, mini-golf, golf, diving, windsurfing, sailing and excursions on a catamaran. Menorca has one golf course located in Son Parc in the northern part of the island. The island has a very lush, hilly countryside but as opposed to its neighbouring island Mallorca, does not have any high mountain ranges. Much of its landscape consists of protected nature parks and there are many caves to be explored. The two most prominent towns Mahon, located to the east and Ciudella to the west, are linked by the main highway, which accesses the whole island. The phrase “all roads lead to Rome” certainly applies to Menorca. Along this road you will find a variety of local factory shops which are the original industries in Menorca, selling leather goods such as shoes, the famous Lladró porcelain and jewellery, The island does not have a coastal road and most coastal resorts can only be accessed by roads running perpendicular from the main highway, giving them the added advantage of remaining peacefully by the sea. The main season in Menorca is from May to the end of October. During the summer each town celebrates in the streets, drinking Pommade, which is a mixture of the local Xoriguer Gin and Lemonade whilst men on horseback raise their horses up onto their hind legs cheered on by the entire village, this is known as ¨Jaleo¨. The sport of horse trotting, another local tradition that is enjoyed here can be enjoyed every weekend in Mahon. Points of interest are the caves along the coastline of the island. For being a small island Menorca has a lot to offer.
