Loule Loule is a beautiful, historic town which lies inland, 18 km north east of Faro. The town is well known for its craftsmanship and its traditional shops are filled with souvenirs made from copperware, leather and wood. Saturday morning the streets are busy with visitors to Loulés famous market. Here you will find an excellent selection of local produce and leather wear, such as belts, bags and shoes. There are a variety of cafes and restaurants, where you can sample the delicious local cuisine. During February the annual carnival begins. Celebrations of dancing in the street in fancy dress last for five days and is considered one of the best fiestas in Portugal. Loule has a castle open to tourists with a museum, which is devoted to the town’s local history. It is a short drive to the charming town of Almancil, which has retained much of its traditional Portuguese character. It has an excellent selection of both local and international restaurants, which are well worth a visit.
